Transocean

Transocean is a leading international provider of offshore contract drilling services for oil and gas wells, specializing in technically demanding sectors of the global offshore drilling business with a particular focus on deep-water and harsh environment drilling services. Transocean operates the highest specification floating offshore drilling fleet in the world.

Transocean works with Ocean Minerals and its affiliates in support of their exploration program and environmental impact studies in the Cook Islands as well as the development of certain of the technologies and services that are required to collect nodules from the seabed.

The technical challenges associated with the efficient recovery of deep-sea polymetallic nodules represent an opportunity for Transocean to leverage its unique offshore expertise in support of the rapidly emerging energy storage market.

As Transocean has previously stated, it believes that a mixture of all energy sources will be required to meet future global energy demands. Its work with Ocean Minerals is a way to provide essential offshore energy services that support a rapidly expanding alternative energy market.

Odyssey Marine Exploration

Odyssey Marine is a deepwater ocean exploration company, providing surveying and mapping in some of the most challenging seas. This technology has been adapted to surveying the seafloor where our nodules lie, evaluating the size, density, area, topography, flora, fauna, and more.

Odyssey Marine has partnered with Ocean Minerals to bring their deep-sea knowledge and search tools to our disposal. They have made a strategic shift to becoming a partner/ supplier to the worlds deepwater seabed minerals, resources, mining and exploration efforts. Their expertise has helped OML and Odyssey Marine Exploration are collaborating on our Comanche ROV. It is operated from the deck of our Anuanua Moana vessel and contains the vehicle, launch and recovery system (LARS), winch, control van, hydraulic power van, ancillary equipment, and spares. Comanche is a light work-class ROV with the capability to reach 6,000-meter depth. Comanche ROVs have been used successfully worldwide in various deep-ocean environments.

Their skills and tools are critical to making the Ocean Minerals research and Environmental campaigns successful as part of the mining license approval process.
